Overview

QUINTUS is a traditionally designed fiberglass masthead cutter that was robustly built and has enjoyed  excellent care by knowledgeable owners for the last 30  years.  Her ruggedly strong construction befits her English heritage.  She has cruised the west coast of Britain, the Solent, and the coastal waters of the Northeast US.  Her owner reports that she "is a joy to look at, and a pleasure to sail".  She is well equipped and has a lovely and well thought out interior for a traditional boat of this size.  She may be seen at our Rockport facility, and is well recommended.

Descriptions

Construction

Fiberglass and wood construction.  Hull Airex cored above the waterline; below the waterline is 1" solid fiberglass.  Deck is 7/8" teak over 1/4" plywood. Trunk cabin is 1" teak ply, cockpit coamings are 7/8" teak.  Deck is trimmed in iroko.  Cabin roof is fiberglass scrim over plywood.  Self-bailing cockpit is fiberglass with iroko grate.  Bridge deck.  Tiller steering.  2,500-lb. internal ballast.  Hull is green with red bottom and beige boottop.  Boat has had the same owner for 30 years, and has been given a general re-fit every 10 years, the last in 2015.

Engine

1979 Saab Model GSP 10HP, 1-cylinder diesel engine, seawater cooled.  2-blade, bronze feathering  and reversing propeller, 1" shaft.  Cruising speed 7 knots, maximum speed 8 knots, approximately 750 hours on the engine.  Fuel consumption is 1/2 gallon per hour.

Electrical

12-volt system with 1 battery, fused panel with master switch, engine alternator.

Sails and Rigging

All sails by Jeckells of Wroxham, Ltd., all in sailbags.  Main, Genoa, jib and staysail of Tanbark Dacron, triple-stitched, 1979.  Storm trysail and spitfire jib of White Dacron, 1986. Cutter masthead rig; double spreader with fixed backstay.  Mast height 40' AWL.  Stainless steel standing rigging with turnbuckles and swaged terminals.  No-stretch nylon halyard, 5'8" braided sheets.  Jiffy reefing.  Shroud rollers and buttons.  Separate track on mast for storm trysail.  Aluminum spars, gold anodized finish.  Deck-stepped mast.  Whisker pole, boom vang, genoa tracks.  Sheet winches in cockpit: two Lewmar Single 7 and two Lewmar Double 16.  Three Lewmar Single 7 halyard winches on mast.

Accommodations

4 total berths: 2 fixed upper berths and 2 slide-out berths, all with canvas lee cloths. 1 head. Galley has sink with hand-pumped salt and fresh water system.  Optimus 2-burner kerosene gimballed stove.  Taylors kerosene heater.  Saloon table stores under berth.  Interior, sole and trim are teak. 2 hatches, 2 opening ports, 1 ventilator, all with screens.

Ground Tackle

17-kg. Bruce anchor, 90-ft. 5/16" chain and 150-ft. 5/8" nylon rode.  Secondary anchor is Danforth with 150' of 1/2" 3-strand nylon and 6' of galvanized chain.  Double bow roller with pins.  Bronze hawse pipe.

Jack stands and keel blocks, frame for winter cover.  Nymph wooden dinghy with varnished oars, fender, lines and bailer.

Weems & Plath clock and barometer.  Plastimo bulkhead compass.  Uniden hand-held VHF, Garmin GPS, Uniden depth sounder, numerous marine charts.  Wacker log, hand-bearing compass.
