Overview

KISMET is a well built William Garden design based on the West coast troller/cruiser models of which he has done several.  She has been well cared for and lightly used, and the owner reports :"As Kismet stands she is fully functional and ready for sea. She has proved to be a
comfortable vessel for both short and longer term cruising and we are only giving
her up due to our increasing ages. We will miss her greatly, not only for her looks
and her comfort, but also for her performance and sea keeping abilities."

When we hit the ripe old age of 89 and 81 respectively, we realized it was time to face reality, and so we said goodbye to our sweet sailboat ELF after fourteen years. The next day we were so miserable that we called our broker back and asked if he had any ideas...... He had only one boat to offer us, and within a few minutes we had fallen in love .... again!

Even before we launched we could tell she was the ideal boat for us --- a handsome design by William Garden ( see WoodenBoat, July 1994), excellent construction by the original owner's boatyard in Vancouver, B. C., not too big at 27 feet, but plenty of headroom, two bunks with inner spring mattresses, a diesel heating and cooking stove, a dinette for harbor watching, and a generous cockpit for entertaining a few friends with a glass of wine as the sun goes down ...in addition the swim platform makes access easy along with a very stable dinghy. The diesel engine had hardly been used - just 200 hours after 20 years. Her draft of only three feet adds the fun of gunk holing as well as the advantage of being able to go well into most anchorages.

We have had two lengthy cruising seasons of over 40 days each on KISMET, and we hope to have another one this summer, but we know it is time to turn her over to another couple who will appreciate all of her user friendly features. this is a great boat in every respect. Even her name KISMET in Arabic means ";A Happy Accident bringing Good Fortune".
